ด้วยเมื่อวันที่ 14 ตุลาคม 2554  ระหว่างวันที่ 18.30 – 20.30 น.  สถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงลิสบอน ได้ร่วมกับพิพิธภัณฑ์ตะวันออกไกล (Museu do Oriente) กรุงลิสบอน  จัดพิธีเปิดงานนิทรรศการประเทศไทย  -  ความรุ่งโรจน์ทางอารยธรรมและ 500 ปีแห่งความสัมพันธ์ไทย – โปรตุเกส (Thailand: The Glory of Civilization & Five Centuries of Thai – Portuguese Relationship)  ณ  พิพิธภัณฑ์ตะวันออกไกล   นิทรรศการดังกล่าวจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 14 ตุลาคม – 13 พฤศจิกายน  2554  และเป็นกิจกรรมหนึ่งที่สำคัญในการร่วมเฉลิมฉลองครบรอบ 500 ปี     แห่งความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตไทย – โปรตุเกส ในปี 2554 นี้ 

ในโอกาสนี้  นายชาคร  สุชีวะ  เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงลิสบอน  ได้เป็นประธานในพิธีเปิดงานร่วมกับนาย Carlos  Monjardino  ประธานกรรมการบริหารมูลนิธิตะวันออกไกล  โดยมีคณะทูตานุทูตในกรุงลิสบอน  เจ้าหน้าที่ระดับสูงของทางการโปรตุเกส  นักวิชาการ  ลื่อมวลชน  และแขกผู้มีเกียรติของฝ่ายโปรตุเกสและฝ่ายไทยให้ความสนใจเข้าร่วมงาน 

การจัดนิทรรศการดังกล่าวได้รับการสนับสนุนจากกรมศิลปากร  กระทรวงวัฒนธรรม  ใน การจัดเตรียมและคัดเลือกศิลปวัตถุจำลองและเลียนแบบในสมัยต่าง ๆ ของไทย มาจัดแสดงพร้อมกับบอร์ดนิทรรศการบรรยายประวัติความเป็นมาของอารยธรรมไทย  รวมทั้งความสัมพันธ์ไทย – โปรตุเกสที่มีมายาวนานกว่า 500 ปี  โดยเฉพาะความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตในสถานะที่      เท่าเทียมระหว่างกันในสมัยนั้น

On the occasion of the 500^th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Portugal in 2011, the Royal Thai Embassy in Lisbon, in cooperation with Museu do Orient (Orient Museum) in Lisbon, co-organize the Exhibition “Thailand: The Glory of Civilization & Five Centuries of Thai – Portuguese Relationship, at Museu do Orient from 14 October  to 13 November 2011.

                                The Exhibition was jointly presided over by H.E. Mr. Chakorn  Suchiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Portugal, and Mr. Carlos Monjardino, President of the Board of Orient Foundation, on Friday 14 October 2011, followed by a reception, during 18.30 – 20.30 hrs. The event was attended by invited diplomatic corps in Lisbon, high-ranking officers, academics, media and distinguished guests of Portugal and Thailand.

                                The Exhibition is well-arranged by Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Culture of Thailand. Replicas and reproduction of art objects representing different periods of Thai civilizations are selected for this Exhibition along with photographs and information on history of friendship and diplomatic relations between Thailand and Portugal, which reflected then one of the outstanding practices of modern diplomacy in which the two countries and their peoples have dealt with each other as equals.
