On the occasion of Songkran Festival, Thai New Year, the Royal Thai Embassy in Lisbon together with the Thai community in Portugal organized Songkran Festival 2025 during 12 - 13 April 2025 at Sumedharam Monastery in Ericeira and Cultural Association of Economic and Social Development in Brejão, Odemira district, respectively. The event comprised various Buddhist ceremonies such as chanting prayers, taking the Five Precepts, giving alms and making offering to the monks as well as pouring water on the Buddha image for blessings.

 

In this connection, the Royal Thai Embassy extends our appreciation to the Thai community and other international friends for their participation and our gratitude to Ajahn Vajiro, the Abbot of Sumedharam Monastery for performing Buddhist ceremonies in the Songkran Festival. The Royal Thai Embassy hopes that this event will help strengthen moral support, unity and synergy of the Thai community in Portugal, which is an important mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while demonstrating the community’s determination to promote, preserve and disseminate Thai culture and tradition overseas.
