On the occasion of Songkran Festival, Thai New Year, the Royal Thai Embassy in Lisbon together with the Thai community in Portugal organized Songkran Festival 2026 during 11 - 12 April 2026 at Sumedharama Monastery in Ericeira and Cultural Association of Economic and Social Development in Brejão, Odemira district, respectively. The event comprised Buddhist ceremonies such as chanting prayers, taking the Five Precepts, listen to a sermon, giving alms and making offering to the monks as well as pouring water on the Buddha image for auspicious blessing of the New Year.

In this connection, the Royal Thai Embassy extends our appreciation to the Thai community and other international friends for their participation and expresses our profound gratitude to the monks of Sumedharama Monastery for performing Buddhist ceremonies in the Songkran Festival. The Royal Thai Embassy hopes that this event will help strengthen moral support, unity and synergy of the Thai community in Portugal, while demonstrating the community’s determination to promote, preserve and disseminate Thai culture and tradition overseas.
