On 15 January 2026, Mrs. Kanokwan Pengsuwan, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Portugal, together with officials and staff of the Royal Thai Embassy, attended the opening ceremony of the Royal Thai Honorary Consulate, Porto.

On this occasion, the Ambassador conveyed her congratulations and appreciation to Mr. Valdemar Meirinho Gonçalves, Honorary Consul of Thailand at Porto, and highlighted the importance of the long-standing Thailand–Portugal relations, as well as the role of Porto as a major city in the northern region of Portugal. The Ambassador noted that Porto is home to a Thai community engaged in various sectors, including education, Thai restaurants, traditional Thai massage, and agriculture.

Mr. Valdemar also expressed his strong commitment to carrying out his duties as Honorary Consul in order to further promote relations and cooperation between Thailand and all Portuguese sectors in Porto.
