On 14 April 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Lisbon and the Thai community in Lisbon organized Songkran Festival at Sumedharama Monastery in Ericeira city. Well-attended by both Thai and foreign nationals, the Festival consisted of merit-making activities such as offerings of food and necessary supplies to the monks, and pouring of water on Buddha image to receive blessing on the occasion of Thai New Year. This event helped to strengthen the bond and connection in the Thai community in Portugal and their willingness to preserve and propagate this important Thai culture and tradition.
