เมื่อวันที่ 2 พฤษภาคม 2556 นายชาคร สุชีวะ เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงลิสบอน พร้อมด้วยข้าราชการสถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ เดินทางไปราชการ ที่เมือง Peniche เพื่อรับฟังการบรรยายสรุปเกี่ยวกับโรงงานผลิตกระแสไฟฟ้าพลังคลื่น โดยมีนาย Antonio Jose Correia นายกเทศมนตรีเมือง Peniche พร้อมด้วยผู้บริหารระดับสูงของบริษัทผลิตไฟฟ้า AW-Energy และอู่ต่อเรือ ENP ของเมือง Peniche ให้การต้อนรับและกล่าว บรรยายสรุปเกี่ยวกับโครงการการผลิตไฟฟ้าด้วยพลังคลื่น รวมทั้งจัดให้ชมอู่ต่อเรือซึ่งเป็นสถานที่ประกอบทุ่นอุปกรณ์รับพลังงานคลื่น ตลอดจนเยี่ยมชมสถานีฐานบริเวณริมชายฝั่งเมือง Peniche ด้วย

ตั้งแต่ปี 2007 บริษัท AW-Energy ร่วมกับอู่ต่อเรือ ENP และเทศบาลเมือง Peniche ร่วมกันดำเนินโครงการผลิตกระแสไฟฟ้าด้วยพลังงานคลื่น ที่เมือง Peniche ซึ่งอยู่ห่างจากกรุงลิสบอนไปทางตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือประมาณ 100 กิโลเมตร และเป็นจุดที่คลื่นลมเหมาะสมในการติดตั้งอุปกรณ์รับและแปลงพลังงานคลื่นเป็นพลังไฟฟ้า ทั้งนี้ โครงการฯ ได้รับการสนับสนุนเงินทุนบางส่วนจากสหภาพยุโรป และปัจจุบันมีอุปกรณ์รับและแปลงพลังงานคลื่นถูกติดตั้งไว้ใต้ทะเลริมชายฝั่งเมือง Peniche จำนวน 3 เครื่อง ซึ่งสามารถผลิตพลังงานไฟฟ้าได้ 300 กิโลวัตต์ ขณะนี้โครงการยังอยู่ระหว่างการพัฒนาเพิ่มเติมเพื่อจ่ายไฟฟ้าเข้าสู่ระบบพลังงานของโปรตุเกสในระยะต่อไป

On 2 May 2013, H.E. Ambassador Chakorn Suchiva, together with the Embassy’s diplomats and staff, paid a visit to the Wave Energy Power Plant  Peniche, located 100 kilometers northwest of Lisbon. H.E. Antonio Jose Correia, Mayor of Peniche, and high ranking executives of the Finnish AW Energy and the Portuguese shipyard ENP welcomed the Thai delegation and gave a briefing on the project of “WaveRoller” power plant and also arranged the visit to the shipyard where the “WaveRoller” wave energy converters are assembled. In addition, the Thai delegation had an opportunity to visit plant substation, located near the coast of Peniche.

Since 2007, the Municipality of Peniche has worked closely with AW Energy and ENP in developing the project of wave energy power plant in Peniche, where the location is blessed with appropriate wave periods and swells.  Three “WaveRoller” wave energy converters are now submerged near the coast of Peniche, producing energy of 300 kWs. The project, receiving partial funding from EU, is still in pre-commercial phase.
